Dermatologie esthétiqueChoosing the appropriate treatment depends on many different factors and will be determined based on a patients’ skin problems, skin type, downtime willing to be tolerated and budget.

A tailored treatment plan will be made in a first consultation, where treatment options, possible side effect, downtime and after care will be discussed.

Several lasers and energy based devices can be used for rejuvenating the skin, all of which have their specific target in the skin.

Depending on the different problems to address: wrinkles, loss of elasticity (skin laxity), irregular texture, uneven complexion, age spots and vascular spots, several devices can be used separately or in combination to achieve synergic and optimized result.

Treatments can be tailored to the downtime a patient can accept, but one has to keep in mind that limited or no downtime treatments will often require repeated sessions to obtain results and these results can be more subtle. More invasive laser treatments require less sessions and will often produce more dramatic improvements.

These more invasive treatments require anesthesia (topical or local injections) and will be followed by a downtime of approximately 2 to 10 days.

 

IPL Photo-rejuvenation: soft rejuvenation, tone enhancement, vascular and pigment

Targets sun/age spots, vascular lesions, colour balance and overall complexion with no to limited effects on wrinkles, texture and skin laxity.

Not or very little painful, application of ice packs after sufficient for relief.

No or limited downtime.

Laser Genesis

Soft rejuvenation, scar improvementIs a no-downtime soft rejuvenation technique where several passes of laser are ‘painted’ over the skin to induce dermal heating. This dermal heating will result in collagen remodelling and stimulation of collagen synthesis.

Stimulation of collagen synthesis is a process that takes several months so the results will be progressive and subtle, but it is a soft rejuvenation technique, excellent for prevention of skin ageing and maintenance treatment.It is a non-invasive technique where repeated sessions (average 4-6) are required with few weeks interval.

Laser Genesis can be combined with IPL for treatments of red scars and facial redness.

It is also used for treatment of nail fungal infections.

Spectra peel and Laser toning : soft rejuvenation and skin enhancement

Spectra carbon laser peel and Laser toning are a soft rejuvenation procedures used to even skin tone, reduce pigmentations, treat active acne, reduce large pores and fine lines. They are gentle procedure and are safe for most skin types. A Spectra peel is FDA approved for treatment of melasma. The Spectra peel is carried out with the aid of a photo-enhancer, a carbon lotion, applied to the skin 15 min before the laser treatment. Several laser passes are carried out during each session. The first laser pass is to eliminate the carbon lotion, causing a gentle exfoliation of superficial skin layers (a soft peel), the following laser passes will cause deep dermal heating, which will stimulate collagen synthesis. It is a combination of a gentle exfoliation (‘soft peel’) with the dermal heating of the Laser Genesis technique.

A single session can be used to get a radiant complexion before a special event to look your best, the so called “Hollywood Peel”. But, as with all soft rejuvenation techniques, multiple sessions are needed in order to obtain optimal results. The number of sessions varies according to the skin condition to treat, and for lasting results maintenance treatments are required every 4 to 6 months

Thulium Micro-Ablative laser

The concept of Thulium Micro-ablative with Cosmeceutical Delivery System is cutting edge technology which combines a laser with specially developed cosmeceuticals.

It is a minimally invasive -no downtime- treatment to enhance skin tone and texture improvement. Penetration of cosmeceuticals is limited by the natural skin barrier, which allows only very small molecules to penetrate into deeper skin layers.

Micro-Ablative Thulium laser can be used to make small micro-channels in the skin barrier in order to increase the penetration of certain cosmeceuticals in the deeper dermal layers, therefore enhancing the efficiency of treatments with these products.

This laser assisted delivery method is very useful for treatment of a number of dermatologic conditions such as pigmentary disorders like melasma, post inflammatory pigmentation, hairlos and scars but can also be used as a soft rejuvenation laser for treatment of wrinkles, skin tone and texture.

Fractional ablative CO2 laser

Ablative CO2 laser have for decades been the golden standard for facial skin resurfacing and rejuvenation but were associated high risks of side-effect and long down times.

Fractional ablative CO2 lasers evaporates micro colums of skin, leaving intact skin between these columns. This untreated surrounding skin promotes a much more rapid recovery with less risk of complications. CO2 laser treatment improves the skin’s surface by ablation and subsequent healing of a fresher epidermis. The thermal effect in the dermis will boost collagen and elastin production, leading to improvement of wrinkles and skin laxity. This new collagen formation will start after approximately 1 month and continue for the next 3 to 6 months meaning the skin will continue to improve in the few months following the treatment.

This results in a fresher ‘rejuvenated’ skin, with improve skin texture and surface, reduced wrinkles and skin laxity.

Laser-assisted cosmeceutical and drug delivery

Both Fractionated ablative CO2 laser and Micro- ablative Thulium laser can be used for so called ‘Laser assisted drug and cosmeceutical delivery’.

Penetration of drugs or cosmeceuticals is limited by the natural skin barrier, which allows only very small molecules to penetrate into deeper skin layers.

Different ablative lasers (fractional CO2 and Thulium) can be used to make small micro-channels in the skin barrier in order to increase the penetration of drugs or certain cosmeceuticals in the deeper dermal layers, therefore enhancing the efficiency of treatments with these products.

This laser assisted delivery method is very useful for skin enhancement but also for treatment of a number of dermatologic conditions such as pigmentary disorders like melasma, scars and keloids, actinic keratosis and certain skin cancers (photodynamic therapy with ALA).
